Administering Arbitrary mailboxes in Exchange Environment with multiple domains

10 Jun 2016

I have recently encountered problem when trying to move arbitration mailboxes to new databases on Exchange 2013 installed in child domain in environment with multiple domains.

When running get-mailbox -Arbitration it was returning empty.

We colud also see that the SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9} user was missing from Child.Ania.lab\Users OU but I found it in the parent domain, Ania.lab\Users.

I found out that it’s because those mailboxes are located in Users OU in the parent domain and that because Exchange Management Shell only checks child domain its unable to find them.

To be able to see and move arbitration mailboxes run this command first:

Set-AdServerSettings -ViewEntireForest $True
